Combat veteran with chronic anxiety and depression. Effexor XR saved my life. Sucks at first but it will come around, just stick with it.

I’ve been on this for three years, and no matter how much shit I give it this has genuinely saved my life. I won’t lie and act like it’s still not obvious I have ptsd/depression/anxiety, but it’s given me the oomf I needed to function. I have really hard days, but a lot of the time I can get through them.

I mean, I was doing dead end jobs after dead end jobs and I hade no hope. Really fucking depressed and wanted to off myself. Started effexor and a year later I'm rocking law school with great grades, a huge sense of purpose and I feel like Im finally living rather than surviving. For me, its been phenomenal

I’ve been on it for over 20 years and it is the only medication that worked for me and I have no side effects. It changed my life. And unlike what I’ve heard others say, I don’t feel numb on it. I feel like myself and still have the normal range of emotions- just a more stable version of myself with a more normal range of emotions- still more than most it seems. Only downside is I can’t get off of it or miss a dose but I have made peace with this. My sister has to take blood pressure medication every day starting at age 30 and gets side effects if she forgets a dose. I see this as no different.

Effexor is the one med that worked for my depression. It, with a combo of a few other things, keeps me at a baseline and I actually turned into a functioning human after taking it!! I’ve been on it for ~5 years now and things with my mental health are worlds better than before. I wish you all the best :)

I was on Effexor for about 12 years. It was the only medication for anxiety that actually took my anxiety away and made me feel “normal”. I was on 75 mg.

I've been on venlafaxine for just over 3 months and I've really noticed a reduction in anxiety without a loss of motivation or a feeling of emptiness like I had with other medications. I had a bit of difficulty when I upped my dose from 37.5 to 75 (I.e., brain zaps, nausea, and vertigo) but after a few weeks I was fine again.  Put simply, I feel like a person again. My anxiety is so much better, and even my bad days are much better than they were on other medications (or non-medicated). I take venlafaxine for GAD and some sub-threshold agoraphobia, so I can't exactly speak for social anxiety. Nonetheless, I hope it helps and I wish you luck!

Yes hello I’m 62 F, started it in 2017 for your basic depression, ( not that life was good otherwise gah I was heavily drinking and married to a closet gay man alcoholic…. ) and I could feel it positively lift the black clouds right away! I could almost feel like a cartoon of my brain with the nerves starting to flash and blink and wake up and scoot the darkness away! I swore I’d be on it forever! I started ten days at 37.5 then on 75 mg since then. My life has drastically changed thanks to a shit ton of hard work from me ! And now I want to stop taking it because I believe it’s now causing a random heavy duty nausea that waves over me about two times a day. I do understand your post/question regarding positivity, and I share my positive experience, just do...
